Justin Bieber’s Facebook Fans Got Fooled By Spammers (Again)
Recently Justin Bieber’s Facebook fans were fooled by spammers into signing up for surveys and other websites. A link claiming that Bieber, the tween sensation, was acting naughty on his webcam caught the attention of all his Facebook fans. In reality, the link led the users to various sign up pages that they kept on filling to reach the link.
Now the spammers have hit Bieber’s Facebook fans again. This time the scam read: “OMG Justin Bierber trying to flirt, check it out http://tiny.cc/[censored]“
Clicking on the link would take fans to a Facebook page with a button reading “Justin Bieber going crazy! Click to see”.
This page was actually a malicious Facebook application that asked users to allow access, which the fans did without paying any particular attention. Once given the access, this “Bieberflirting” app accessed the user’s information and posted messages on his/her wall at any time. Facebook friends of the user then get spammed by the app, in the user’s name.
A senior technology consultant at Sophos, Graham Cluley had this advice to give to the spam victims: “If you find that your Facebook account has been compromised by the Bieberflirting application, clean-up any messages it may have posted to your status updates and remove the application’s right to access your profile.”
